No-Mess Finger Painting

It’s pouring rain here so hard I just want to curl up with tea and a good book. But I’m a mom of two under 2 1/2 years old so no free time for me. But there are some things to do with my daughter that keep her out of trouble for, oh, at least 10 minutes.

Try this. First I use sheets of packing paper as a table protector. Then I put down a sheet of construction paper. Dab a little paint here and there on it then lay a piece of celophane on top. Voila, the little Picaso can ooze the paint all over the place, revel in how cool it feels, and the hands (and thus clothes, table, chair, face, hair, dog) stay mercifully clean. I enjoy playing with the colors – putting a few primaries just out of reach of each other on the paper before putting down the celophane and encouraging her to try to mix them. Teaches colors, what happens when colors mix, and provides a fun sensory experience.
