Welcome to Heligirl.com: A Positive Parenting, Cleverly Crazy Mommy Blog. Those who’ve known me for a while know I used to have a more personal website for friends and family, but I pulled that down to overhaul it to proportions never before seen at this domain name. The result is the New and Improved HELIGIRL!

I removed more personal identifying information such as my phone number, address, last name and the kids’ names and have added a whole heck of a lot of information about my journey in parenthood and my desperate attempts to raise my kids to have positive outlooks, self discipline, and high self-esteem, as they learn good decision making and self reliance skills.

When we become parents, most of what we have in our bag of tricks is our experiences in how we were raised. Without going into the ugly details of why (enough of that comes out from time to time in my posts), those that have known me a while know I am determined to find a positive, supportive parenting style of my own. I’ve been very fortunate to have gotten to know a great group of moms through mom groups, preschool, and parenting programs that have introduced me to exactly what I was seeking.

I’ve become so excited about this wonderful parenting style that I want to share it with the world. If more people gave this kind of attention to parenting, and understood how today’s lifestyles affect child development, I really feel we’d give a lot more attention to how we raise our kids. This blog is about how positive discipline, compassionate parenting, connection parenting (and all those other buzzwords that basically foster everything I desire to give to my little ones) is working in our home. I’m committed to writing daily (with just a few exceptions), focusing mainly on my experiences with these parenting techniques as they relate to the daily challenges of raising two kids. Also, I will write and publish at least one serious, educational article with valuable parenting information, advice and insight every week using recognized parenting authority sources every week to 10 days (time dependent). If there is something you want to know more about, drop me a line or leave a comment and I’ll add it to the article list.

On top of that, I share my experience with projects for the kids, photos, insight on products I’ve found that I like (and a few that suck, like LG), all seasoned with a healthy dose of insight on the daily crazy that is life in Jen’s World, including the occasional helicopter story or two.

So, please, help me get the word out to as many parents as possible. Please bookmark this site, tell your friends and all Mommy pals you know, and consider sharing Heligirl on Facebook and Twitter. If you’re interested, click on the buttons in the upper right corner to sign up for an RSS feed (sends you e-mails when I’ve posted new stuff so you don’t miss anything good), to follow me on Twitter, or to be a fan of Heligirl on Facebook. If you have a blog, please link to Heligirl and let me know in a comment so I can link back to you.

And lastly, a special thank you to Sean Westerfield for his amazing design help and Chris Rohrmoser for his incredible unique drawing at the top of my blog. And of course, to the gang at DreamHost who make hosting a website and WordPress blog easy, and very inexpensive.
