I don’t know what it is. Every time I say something to Sweetness, she immediately repeats it back. Ad nausium. Seriously, it makes me nauseous sometimes.
Me: “Do you need to sit on the potty?”
Her: “Sit on the potty.”
Are you going to poo?
Poo.
Are you all done?
All done.
It’s about as productive as discussing the finer points of super novas with a parrot.
But when it comes to those three little words a Mommy wants so bad to hear, even if she’s big and tough and says she doesn’t, my little bundle of repetitious chatter goes mute. I’ve told her I love her hundreds of thousands of times. She hears me tell her brother, dad and dog brothers the same (I stop at the cats as I’m a dog person and the cats smell funny.)
I must have done something extra special because she decided to remove her gag order on the L word today. I went into her room after she woke up and she asked for a snuggle. I did my best to get into her little toddler bed and she snuggled up to me, giving me kisses as I did the same with her. She told me she had a good sleep, asked if I did (I spared her the details of her brother’s apparent failure to read the “mommy needs 8 hours of sleep” memo), and talked in her typical gibberish for a bit. Then she sat up and started taking off her sleep sack. I was just laying there watching her. Then it happened.
She stopped mid zip. Turned to face me. Smiled and said:
“I love you Mommy.”
Mommy started crying all over the place, took her into my arms and kissed her all over the face, thanking her so much and telling her I loved her. She was so pleased with the reaction she said it over and over again, clearly loving her new-found power to make Mommy cry.
Yes, today started out pretty special.

You made me cry! At this point I still have a long wait just to hear “momma”.
