It Takes A Community: Parenting Advice

by Heligirl on June 8, 2011

in Daily Ramblings,Positive Discipline

I’m excited to announce I’m unveiling a new offering here on Heligirl designed to help folks with their burning parenting issues with honest positive discipline parenting advice. Now when you have an issue that’s driving you crazy, or perhaps a question that’s been on your mind, you can reach out here and get some helpful advice. When you have a question, you can be sure there are a lot of other people with the same issue who aren’t asking. Let’s tackle it together!

I’m calling this new section “It Takes a Community,” because, honestly, it does take a community to raise happy, healthy and capable young adults today. Here’s how works:

You can submit parenting questions to me via my e-mail or Facebook page. I will choose one question a week and feature it on Heligirl. I will do my best to provide valuable positive discipline advice in the answer, or ask one of my positive discipline references to help provide a strong response you can use.

Then I’ll open the floor for additional advice and insight from readers. There never is one true expert on anything, and when it comes to parenting, I deeply believe through a parenting community we gain enough insight to make the best decision for our own individual needs. We need each others’ insights, experiences and advice to grow.

I hope to offer this once a week, which means I’m limited to 52 questions. I’ll answer them on a first come, first serve basis so if you have a burning question, please be sure to get it in right away.

There are several ways you can ask me a question for “It Takes a Community.” You can send me an e-mail with your question or issue, you can send me a Tweet with an #ITAC tag, or you can post it on the Heligirl Facebook page. I will be asking for questions from time to time on the Facebook page, so be sure to follow us there to stay in the loop.

To get things started, if you have a question or issue that is on the top of your mind right now, please put it in the comments here. As long as comments are still open for this post, you can submit them here and I’ll add them to the list.

I look forward to hearing your questions and issues and look forward to joining the conversation!

“Community” prevented me from being able to successfully avoid a curfew without my parents finding out where I was and what I was doing.

What a great idea! I’m all for using all your resources when it comes to parenting – I SO wish there were parenting blogs I could go to when my boys were young. I would have had fewer sleepless nights for sure 🙂

This is so very true. Trying to parent in isolation is not healthy for the child or the parent, being part of a greater community for support is crucial. Glad their are parenting communities out there to help Moms like me connect with others so easily!

Sounds like a great idea! My daughter had her first temper tantrum last week and I thought…uh oh, here we go and she’s not even 1 yet! I can see I’ll be looking for advice in the very-near future.

I love this idea. I am not a mom yet, but I will be sure to spread the word of your community to the moms I know. I am also a big fan of stumble upon, so I’m going to give this post a stumble for you, hoping that some moms and dads will stumble upon your community!

Lots of luck!!
